TimesDear Colleagues, I would like to call to your attention to a special (union) session at the fall meeting of the American Geophysical Union (San Francisco, CA Dec 15-19) highlighting the use of AMS in the earth sciences. The abstract deadline for this meeting is September 1 via standard mail and September 7 via web-based abstract submission. If you do submit an abstract to this session, please send me an email so that I can make sure that the abstract doesn't go unearmarked for this very exciting special session. Please feel free to forward this announcement to any and all that you think might be interested in this endeavour. Union Session (U-3) Fall AGU 2000 Current Research Employing Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Co-conveners: Tom Guilderson Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry, LLNL & Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Harvard University) Sue Trumbore (Department of Earth System Science, University of California, Irvine) Marc Caffee (Geosciences & Environmental Technologies, LLNL) Fred Phillips (Dept. of Earth & Environmental Science, New Mexico Tech). Call for abstracts: The development of accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) heralded a new era in the earth sciences and in part, has lead to the routine measurement of a suite of isotopes, e.g. 10Be, 14C, 26Al, 36Cl, 99Tc, 129I. AMS has to some extent come of age, is now in its third decade, and is considered a necessary analysis tool. The measurement of natural and man-made nuclides has assisted in answering fundamental questions in the earth sciences. Some of these include, the distribution and variability of oceanic radiocarbon to study circulation and carbon cycling, measurement of specific components isolated from dissolved, sedimentary, or soil organic matter to characterize constituents controlling the carbon cycle, in situ cosmogenic nuclide production to date geomorphic surfaces, the study of groundwater flow and recharge, and detailed paleoclimate chronologies. We encourage papers presenting novel methodologies, new data sets, interpretations, and applications across the breadth of the earth sciences. c.f. http://www.agu.org/meetings/fm00top.html ****************************************************** West Coast: Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory L-397 7000 East Avenue, Livermore, CA 94551 ph: (925) 422-1753 fax: (925) 423-7884 East Coast: Dept. of Earth & Planetary Sciences, 20 Oxford Street, Harvard University, Cambridge MA 02138 guilderson@eps.harvard.edu ****************************************************** =========================================================================== To unsubscribe from this list, send the command SIGNOFF C14-L to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.ARIZONA.EDU, or send a request to C14-L-request@LISTSERV.ARIZONA.EDU. ========================================================================= Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2000 12:59:03 -0700 Reply-To: Radiocarbon Mailing List Sender: Radiocarbon Mailing List From: Kim T Elliott Subject: Radiocarbon Conference Papers Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" 17th RADIOCARBON CONFERENCE ATTENDEES: This is a reminder for those of you who wish to submit a paper for the proceedings of the June 2000 17th International Radiocarbon Conference in Jerusalem.
