Exploring this subject is Ghosts of the Mountains, the latest video presented by The Archaeology Channel (www.archaeologychannel.org). Archaeological exploration of a five-mile stretch of proposed highway near Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, in the mid-1990s revealed numerous prehistoric archaeological sites dating between 12,000 years ago and A.D. 1400. Working through the winter and employing painstakingly precise methods, the archaeological team revealed surprisingly well preserved house remains and artifacts at two village sites that provide valuable clues to the lifeway of the now-vanished Monongahela people. Viewers of this video will witness the challenges overcome by field archaeologists on a mission to recover important data in advance of highway construction. This and other programs are available on TAC for your use and enjoyment. If you feel that this project is a worthy endeavor, please participate in the Membership and Underwriting programs described on our website at www.archaeologychannel.org.
