PLanetary Agender, Non-binary, womEn and Trans Scientists & Staff at LPL (PLANETS-LPL)

private information

The PLanetary Agender, Non-binary, womEn and Trans Scientists & Staff at LPL (PLANETS-LPL) group provides a community for members of the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory whose gender identities are underrepresented, marginalized and/or minoritized within Planetary Science. This includes those who identify outside the gender binary (for example, but not limited to, those identifying as non-binary, genderqueer, agender, and two-spirit), transgender and cisgender women, and transgender men. We here understand Planetary Science to include those who work in planetary science and aligned fields, and those who support Planetary Science in our department through their job duties as administrative, maintenance, and IT staff. Our primary goal is to empower each other by connecting across different research groups, specialties, career paths, career stages, and work buildings to share our experiences, listen to each other, discuss challenges that some or many of us face, and share advice, resources, and opportunities. We actively acknowledge that many of our members also face marginalization along other axes of oppression (e.g., racism/white supremacy, heterosexism, transphobia, ableism, religious discrimination, immigration status, and others). We commit to making space for these experiences. A secondary goal of the group is also to educate ourselves on how we can advocate for and actively support each other, especially those of us who hold multiple marginalized identities.

As a group, we also welcome cisgender male allies with a strong commitment to listen, learn and stand in solidarity.
